Role
For the past ten years Centre Génération Emploi, one of the leaders in this sector, has been offering multicultural training services. Over 600 community intervention professionals as well as a wide variety of other professionals have received this training in order to better their practice and develop competencies when intervening in an intercultural context.
Centre Génération Emploi is an active member of the Multicultural Counseling Association who establishes the norms and ethics for professionals working with a multicultural population in North America.
The Center has also played a key role in defining the norms and practices regarding training in employability development. In 1995, Centre Génération Emploi participated in the drafting of the “Guide des meilleures pratiques de formation à l’emploi dans le milieu communautaire”.
Lastly, in conjunction with other community organizations, Centre Génération Emploi has and continues to play a dominant role in establishing community economic development corporations in the Montreal area.
The executive director, Anna Campagna, was vice-president and member of the administration council of the CDEC Centre-Nord for a duration of 4 years; she was also president of the Employability Committee and of the Cultural Diversity Committee of the CDEC. From 1999 to 2002, she sat at the intercultural and interracial committee of the Montreal Urban Community (CRII-MUC).
Objectives
The corporation is defined as a non-profit organization with strictly benevolent goals.
The general objectives, according to general regulations for which the corporation is constituted (amended October 22nd of 2003), are:
Offering training services and assistance to individuals mainly from ethnic communities and visible minorities with the goal of developing their employability and helping them integrate and stay in the job market.
Promote and defend the rights of ethnic communities and visible minorities in the matter of equal access to helping servicesas well as to the preparation and maintenance of employment.
Organize courses, conferences, meetings as well as other services and activities of the same kind.
Receiving and administrating donations, legacies and other contributions of the same nature, be it in cash or real estate; organizing subscription campaigns in order to collect funds for the previously mentioned goals.
